Arizona Quilters Guild
Committed to educating the public and our members about the place quilts hold in our lives, hearts, and history.
Cholla Quilters have been a chapter of AQG since 1978. The purpose of this organization is to create, stimulate, maintain and record interest in all matters pertaining to the making, collecting and preserving of quilts. Cholla averages 30-35 members, with about 20 members attending meetings and classes.
Cholla Quilters meets the first and third Friday of the month. The first meeting of the month is the business meeting and includes demonstration of a technique, social time, and show and tell. The meeting on the third Friday is a class or workshop taught by a member or guest teacher. Past classes have included making quilted notebook covers, painting barn quilts, making crumb quilts, using text in quilts, and using vintage linens to make pincushions or bags. Business meetings and classes begin at 9:30 a.m. in Martin Hall, at Velda Rose Methodist Church, 5540 E. Main St, Mesa, AZ.
In recent years Cholla members have participated in a variety of charity projects: quilts for Infinity Hospice; receiving blankets, quilts, small caps, beanies and pillow cases for Helen’s Hope Chest; hot/cold rice bags for MD Anderson Cancer Center; quilts for Ronald McDonald House; mastectomy drain aprons for Bag and Boob Babes; and quilts for the VA Hospital.
