The Git'er Done Piecemakers
Apache Wells Quilt Room
The purpose of Git' Er Done Piecemakers (GRDP) is to provide an environment for sharing the enjoyment of quilting within a group that exchanges ideas, shares skills and supports one another in the pursuit of the art of quilting. We have an average number of 20 members, most of whom are winter visitors. Our group formed over ten years ago. Our business meetings are held the first Monday of the month from October to April. All other Mondays are spent working on personal and/or charity projects. We also have facilities to meet on Wednesday evenings.
We hold an annual quilt show in our neighborhood, which is typically the first Saturday in March. Shop Hops are made periodically. Members of our group take turns leading various skills and pattern classes/workshops. A few examples would be Ricky Timms Harmonic Convergence, One Block Wonder stack-n-whacks, barn quilts, yo-yo Christmas trees, and mystery quilts.
GRDP participates in a quilt “camp” that combines quilting projects with socializing once a year over the span of two or three days. During the day, food is a combination of pot luck and eating out for lunches and dinners. Projects are based on whatever the individual wants to accomplish.
Our chapter is involved in charitable opportunities. GRDP makes surgical hats, port pillows and pill pouches that get distributed to various hospitals. In 2019 we created 953 surgical hats, 491 knit hats, and 101 pill pouches that were delivered to Desert Banner, Cardon's Children's, MD Anderson, and Fresenius Medical Care facilities. Charity quilts, throws, and wraps are also made for Autumn House Domestic Violence Shelter, or local residents in need.
Our officers are: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Committees include: Programs, Charity, Membership, and Quilt Show. Dues are $15/year. We do have a page on Facebook named - GED Piecemakers.
